Maidenbower 4 – 1 Albury Eagles
I was proud of the boys today as we struggled on with only 11 players after 2 boys couldn’t play due to sickness and another was injured. On the same sticky pitch we played on last week Albury matched Maidenbower very well up until just before the break. Maidenbower scored after a parried shot by goalkeeper Ben Walter fell to a Maidenbower player to score. So it was 1 – 0 at halftime. Just after the interval, Maidenbower scored again to make it 2 – 0. Albury pulled a goal back after a through ball to Luke Cannon who rounded the keeper to score. At this stage Albury were right in the game and Maidenbower were rocking. But after a mix up in defence a Maidenbower player was left unmarked to make it 3 – 1 it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Maidenbower scored again to make it 4– 1. This is how the game finished. But the boys need to bounce right back as we have a crunch match with Ockley next week.

Albury Eagles 2 - 1 Upper Beeding
Albury had the chance to leap frog second in the league Upper Beeding Saturday. Albury start really well with lots of possession and took the lead through Steven Lake who blasted the ball in at the near post. When Upper Beeding had the ball we shut them down quickly not allowing them to settle. The first half was well contested and we doubled the lead by half time with another rocket from Steven Lake. In the second half it was end to end and keeper Will Walker made some good saves. The physical strength of Upper Beeding allowed them to pull a goal back. Eagles continued to battle for the last 20 minutes and everyone including the subs worked hard for the victory. Man of the Match went to James Hern.

Royal United 7 – 3 Albury Eagles
Another disappointing result for the Eagles as even a Nathanael Farrant hat-trick could not stop Royal United winning this game. The first half saw the game 'see-saw' between the two teams and when both sides left the pitch at half time, 3-3 seemed to be a fair reflection on the match. Unfortunately for the Eagles the slick passing of Royal sliced open the Albury team on several occasions in the second half and Royal went on to score the goals that Albury were unable to respond to.

Albury Eagles 2 – 1 Storrington & Sulllington
Eagles turned on their best performance of the season to knock undefeated league leaders Storrington off the top of the table. This was a determined performance from an under-strength Eagles side especially in defence where Billy Tompkins, Owen Bracey, Jack Inwood and Dan Foulsham repelled a Storrington side that had amassed 70 goals in their previous five matches. It seemed only a matter of time before Storrington added to their total as they penned Eagles back into their own half in the opening minutes. However, Eagles hassled and harried their opponents and clear-cut chances were few and far between. Just as it seemed as goal was inevitable Eagles scored against the run of play. A swift break with some crisp passing resulted in Elliott Cozens driving in a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area. Two minutes later Eagles doubled the lead with a carbon copy move and Cozens finishing strongly from 15 yards.
Eagles’ confidence grew as they came back into the game strongly in the remaining ten minutes of the half but soon after the restart Storrington were back in the game when an accidental hand ball gave the visitors a penalty. Chances came and went at both ends with Cozens, Louis O’ Hanlon and George Thompson all going close for Eagles. However, Eagles’ defence held firm in an increasingly tense last quarter as Storrington pushed forward. The visitors came closest to an equaliser with almost the last kick of the game but keeper Alex Thrower got a leg to a shot that rolled past the post.
