Brockham Badgers ‘A’ 1 – 4 Albury Eagles

Thanks to all who came to the game today to support the team. Albury started with an away tie at Brockham. Some lovely football, good passing and great vision as well as some good goals scored saw Albury lead 3 – 0 at half time. All 3 goals scored by Dan Kelly. The first was after 3 minutes when the Brockham goalkeeper pulled Dan down and a penalty was awarded. Dan brushed himself down and then scored the penalty. In the second half Zac Smith went off with a groin injury and the team had to be re-jigged. Albury then came under some heavy Brockham pressure which results in a goal for Brockham. But Luke Cannon still managed to find the net again for Albury. It was his just rewards after hitting the post twice in the first half. Matt Evans also hit the bar with a powerful shot. But well done to everyone today who played their part in a good win for Albury.

Brockham Badgers ‘B’ 0 – 14 Albury Eagles

To start the season the U 14s went to Brockham. Albury started well with plenty of chances in the first 20 mins but the post, cross bar and some good saves from their goalie kept the score even. Then the break through came and we finished the first half 5 - 0 up. In the second half the boys produced some of the best football they have ever played. Everyone had improved their game; we used the width and found plenty of space, this was used really well by Daniel Cannon. By the end Steve Lake scored 7, Harry Good 4, Daniel Cannon 2 and Ben Hurman 1. We also kept a clean sheet as William Walker pull of a great save after having virtually nothing to do for the whole game.

Cranleigh Cougars 1 – 6 Albury Eagles

The under-13s  produced a scintillating display of attacking football to sweep aside their Division A counterparts and made a winning start to the new season in the Horsham and District youth league. In a First-half flurry, four goals in the first 38 minutes were the foundations for Albury's victory, with Tom Cantoni giving them an early lead from the penalty spot after a hand ball in the area. Philip Smith  found the net soon after with a long range shot that caught out the Cranleigh keeper by bouncing over his head and then into the net. Nathanael Farrant then added the first of two in the match before Christopher Brooks rounded the keeper to make it 4-0 at half time.

A well-worked goal in the second half saw Nathanael score his second of the day and then Tom Beazley came off the bench for his debut for the Eagles to rifle in a sixth goal . A very strong performance from the Eagles defence made sure that only a single goal was conceded and Harvey Marshall gained the man of the match award for his efforts through the whole of the match.

Albury Eagles 13 – 1 Brockham Badgers

Eagles got their 2008/09 campaign to a flying start with a crushing defeat of Brockham Badgers.

The game belonged to last season’s top scorer Elliott Cozens who excelled, hitting the back of the next eight times, just two short of his total for the previous season.

Eagles began cautiously but as soon as Cozens put them ahead after 11 minutes they grew in confidence and began to play confident football with William Potts and Tom Hartley bossing the midfield. Cozens doubled the led five minutes later only for Brockham to pull a goal back immediately. The two-goal lead was restored as

Cozens completed his hat-trick after just 21 minutes, and added his fourth before half time with the best move of   the match after latching on to a through pass from strike partner Louis O’ Hanlon.

The floodgates opened on dispirited Brockham in the second half. Cozens made the most of his strength to out-muscle a wilting defence to find the back of the net on four more occasions. Not to be outdone William Potts came forward from midfield and helped himself to a hat-trick, one a delightful left-foot chip from the edge of the area. Tom Hartley, who had worked hard down the right of midfield, got his reward with two well-taken goals.

Stiffer tests will lay ahead this season but this was a result to boost confidence and send a warning to the rest of the league.

Old Dorkinians 1 – 5 Albury Eagles

Albury got their season off to a good start. With some new signings for this season it was a good chance to see how the boys played. After a mish mash of a first half where we played 8 a side due to Dorking being short of players, in the second half things improved as Dorking recruited 3 U14s and we got to play 11 a side. Albury winning quite easily with goals from Chris Caley(1),Dan Kelly(2) and Matt Evans(2). A good run out for the boys in readiness for our first match next week.
