A great result in the Cup this week. After a good first half performance from the boys, Albury led 4 – 0 at halftime. In the second half 3 more goals were added and Albury march on to the next round. Goal scorers were Dan Kelly(3), Harvey Owen(2) and Zac Smith(2). Man of the Match was goalkeeper Ben Walter who made some good saves and also saved a penalty. Well done to everyone.

Albury Eagles 3 - 2 Roffey Robins
Philip Smith's late winner in the dying seconds of this match earned himself and the rest of the Albury Eagles under 12's team a place in the next round of the Frank Giess Memorial Cup. Having started the stronger of the two sides, Albury were soon two goals up through solo efforts by Harvey Marshall and Christopher Brooks.
The second half saw the Roffey Robins pull a goal back and then to go on and equalise through well taken goals by their attack. Albury rallied and once again dominated the match but as the game went on and the referee's final whistle loomed it looked as though the game was heading into extra time. In the last few seconds, Philip Smith ( with his back to goal ) sent an overhead shot looping over the goalkeeper and into the Roffey goal that had the Albury faithful supporters cheering and the team happy to be going into the next round of the cup.

Hearts FC Lions 7-1 Albury Eagles
Lightning does strike twice. Two visits to league newcomers Hearts and the same result for sorry Albury. A pre-season 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the Teddington-based side was repeated thanks to a woeful performance by Albury who gave every impression that the trip to south west London had left them jetlagged. A goal down in the first minute, Albury never got into anything that could be recognised as their stride. By half time Hearts had rattled in five with only a lobbed shot from new boy Luke Rodgers troubling the Hearts keeper. Albury put the brakes on the Hearts charge in the second half but poor defending allowed the home side to add to their tally. Albury had the consolation of a spectacular reply in the closing minutes but even then it was from the boot of a Hearts defender.

13.10.07
Albury Lions 2 - 0 Tadworth Tigers
Scorers Tom Schoen, Harvey Lawrence
Holmbury Blacks 1 – 4 Albury Griffins
Scorers Jamie Reed 2, Michael Upfold, Bruce Perry.
Another good performance by the Griffins. We went down early on, but no-ones head dropped and we got a goal back nearly immediately, showing the same strength of character that got us through a number of tough games last season. In the end it was a comfortable victory, beating Holmbury 4:1, with 2 goals from Jamie, and 1 each from Michael and Bruce. Only concern is our unproductive last quarter (as with our last game) where we lost our concentration and shape.
The victory was built on the sound foundation of our back three. Well done to Howard, Rhys and Nicholas. Man of the match goes to Nicholas, who was captain for the day, marshalled the back three, and played superbly himself.
Well done to all.
