Albury Eagles 3-0 Forest Row
Today could have been a really tricky game as we only had 11 players and no subs. But the team showed true grit and performed the best they have performed this season. With Dan Kelly out injured and Ben Smiths registration still not through from the league it meant the boys had to knuckle down and try get a good result. After a good first half in which both teams had chances, it was Albury that made the breakthrough to take the lead going into half time. A ball was put over the top of the Forest Row defence which Harvey Owen latched onto, took the ball around the keeper and slotted the ball into the net.1 – 0 at halftime. Into the second half, Captain Dan Kingshott and Zac Smith stood firm in central defence to stop anything Forest Row had to offer. Halfway through the second half Albury doubled their lead when Chris Caley unleashed a thunderbolt from the edge of the penalty area that crashed into the net past the keeper,2 – 0.Harvey Owen made it 3 – 0 with his second goal of the match right on the final whistle to give Albury the 3 points. Ben Walter in the Albury goal had an outstanding home debut and gave confidence to the defence in front of him. Man of the Match was Harvey Owen who lead the attack fantastically. We’re off the mark.

Handcross Tigers 1 - 4 Albury Eagles
Another solid performance from the Eagles saw them take an early lead when Oli Stephens had an easy tap in at the far post from a Harry Ford cross that the Handcross defence failed to clear. Solid performances from Ryan Lintott and Joe Mapp in the first half gave the Eagles good possession and with player of the week Sammy Lewis outstanding at right back, following Tom Cain's good performance at left back the previous week, competition for places is hotting up. The Eagles went 2 up when Harry Ford was brought down after a dribbling run and Oli Stephens tucked away his third penalty of the season. Handcross nabbed a soft goal with a shot from distance in greasy conditions but then this was repeated at the other end when Joe Mapp hit a long shot that the keeper failed to grasp.
The Eagles were comfortable in the second half but only scored once when Ryan Lintott got his third goal in three games getting on the end of a Harry Ford cross. Adam Clarke looked very solid in the second half pulling off a number of good saves and captain George Mackenzie's excelled at sweeper during a 10 minute spell when Handcross were camped in the Eagles half. Fraser Millis had an excellent second half getting much more in the game and using possession well. The Eagles were unlucky not to capitalise on a more direct attacking approach with the Handcross Tigers keeper making an outstanding tip over from an Oli Stephens shot and both Harry Ford and Oli Stephens were defied by the woodwork.

Brockham 0-2 Albury Lions
A great match was had by all. Two equally matched sides on a good pitch and dry conditions. Albury Lions played as a team and showed some great skill. The first goal came in the first half and was belted home by Thomas Sayers. Albury had other chances, though there was strong defensive play by Brockham. Albury did well to keep up the pace as the boys all knew they each had to play a full match.
In the second half Harry Hayes scored an excellent goal after good supportive play form Tom Schoen, Billy Cory-Wright and Thomas Sayers. Harry's goal was scored at a tight angle and showed excellent finishing skills under pressure.
Max Bewsey and Christopher Rogers made a fine duo in defence and regularly cleared the ball away to make David Hill's goal keeping slightly easier. Though in the second half David fought back some strong attacks by Brockham and made two superb saves.
Man of the match was shared between Billy Cory-Wright for his determined play and David Hill for his great goal keeping.
All in all a great match to watch and the boys enjoyed playing in it and deserved their win. Well done to you all.
Thanks to all the Mum's and Dad's for their support and encouragement and especially to Colin and Mark for their help.
