Broadbridge Heath 4-3 Albury Eagles

Today was the start of the season. Albury losing 1-0 after Broadbridge Heath’s one of a very few chances in the first half they had, were awarded a penalty after George Stephens was brought down by their keeper in the area. Dan Kingshott converted to make it 1-1. George Stephens then made it 2-1 with a solo goal which ended up with George flicking the ball up and volleying over the keeper into the net. In the 2nd half, Albury became very sloppy and couldn’t pass the ball well. Jake Nurse acting as a stand in keeper pulled off some great saves before Broadbridge Heath finally scored 2 goals to make it 4-2. Albury seemed to wake up and made it 4-3 with a shot across the keeper from Chris Caley. But it all was too little too late. But under the circumstances of only having 11 players and a stand in keeper until at least next week, it wasn’t a bad result.

Billingshurst 3-2 Albury Eagles

Albury started very well for the first game of the season and we took the lead after a great through ball from Daniel Cannon to Harry Good who open his goal account with a tidy finish. The second half started well for Albury and we doubled our lead with an own goal after a corner from Daniel. After that we started to run out of energy and through some silly mistakes, Billingshurst were right back into the game and then managed to take the lead with 2 minutes to go. With some unfortunate timing, Ben Hurman's equaliser was disallowed as it was to have deemed to cross the line after the final whistle!!  MOM Oliver Harris.

Broadbridge Heath 0-5 Albury Eagles

Albury  Eagles under 12's first appearance of the season  in the Horsham and district " B"  league started off with a good away win at Broadbridge Heath. Albury looked comfortable in possession and played with a confidence matched by their undoubted ability. With outlets from all angles with Philip Smith and Tom Cantoni on the wings, it took Christopher Brooks only 9 minutes to open the scoring for Albury. The away  side continued to press and could have, and probably should have done better than just double their lead  before half time through a Philip Smith goal.
The second half began much as the first had, with Albury dominating possession and with a strong performance from Colby Silver at left back, matched by the rest of the defence it allowed the midfield to dominate the remaining part of the game. Further goals were added 5 minutes after the break by Eagle’s captain  Harvey Marshall, when he latched onto two loose balls in the Broadbridge Heath half  and saw his long range efforts slamming  into the opponents net. Christopher Brooks added the last of the day’s goals when he unleashed a snap shot from inside the box that sailed over the advancing Broadbridge keeper to seal the game.

Albury Eagles P-P Dorkinians

Dorkinians failed to register their team in time for this fixture.

We are still awaiting the league verdict on this game, as Albury should be in line for an automatic 3 points!

Chilworth Rangers 0-4 Albury Eagles

Scorers: Michael Upfold (3), Jamie Bloomfield

Chilworth Rangers 1-2 Albury Griffins

Scorers: Own Goal, Jago Roberts

We put out 2 mixed ability sides with super results, which were even more impressive given that in the second game Chilworth had year 5 and year 6 children to make up their numbers.

Handcross 5 -  6  Albury Eagles
Albury Eagles under 12's preseason journey to Handcross saw them return to their winning ways with a narrow 6-5 victory over a well organised and disciplined Handcross team. The game started at a high tempo, with Handcross looking the livelier of the two teams, and it was the home side that took the lead in the first half , but a stunning long range shot from George Duff  kept the Albury side in contention and in reach of the Handcross team.
Slick passing and bright movement created space in midfield in the second half and Albury were able to level the score and then go on, in the last few moments of the game to secure victory. Goals in either half  from forward Phillip Smith, completed  his hat-trick and two goals from Christopher Brooks were enough to give the Eagles a good opening start to the season  but with plenty room for improvement.

Vacancy of ‘Chairman’; Election of Officers

All parents of Eagles members are hereby invited to attend a special election meeting on Mon 17th Sept at 7.30, at the Albury Cricket Pavilion to vote concerning the ‘Election of Officers’ onto the sub-committee of Albury Cricket and Football Club, which is Albury Eagles FC Committee. After five years of excellent service, Sage Henson has now stepped down as Chair, so we need to elect a replacement, who will assume the post of ‘Co-Ordinator’.

Sage has been our Chair since the inception of Albury Eagles in January 2002, and on behalf of all the club, I would like to offer our thanks and appreciation for all his good deeds in that time.

Also, constitutionally, to confirm the appointments of Sarah Savage (Assistant Secretary), Nick Moldon (Kit Supremo) and John Caley (Grounds and Equipment)

Other officers standing for re-election are Tony Hern (Secretary), Lynne Smith (Treasurer), John Duff (Welfare Officer).

A committee meeting will follow this meeting at 8pm.
