Horsham Plate Quarter Final
Upper Beeding 2-1 Albury
I’d just like to thank the boys for their valiant efforts today. The match was a very close encounter. Upper Beeding 2nd in Division B started the match well and had the Albury defence under pressure for most of the first half. Albury created very little in the first half, but defended very well. Zac Smith was outstanding at centre - back along side captain Dan Kingshott. Albury were reduced to the odd break away and shots from outside the penalty area. In contrast, Alex Henson in the Albury goal was making some outstanding saves. Just before halftime Upper Beeding finally got their goal. The ball was slotted through between our two centre backs for their centre forward to slot past our keeper from close range. After a rousing halftime teamtalk from myself the boys went out fired up for the 2nd half. They started to compete with Upper Beeding for every ball. After a succession of Albury corners Upper Beeding cleared the ball into the Albury half. Tom Anderson failed to clear and the winger crossed the ball into the penalty area where an Upper Beeding forward headed in from close range. At 2 – 0, I decided to change formation to try and get back into the game. Zac Smith was pushed into midfield and we played with just 3 defenders. After this change we found that we were beginning to get on top of our opponents and started to create more chances. Chris Caley broke through on the wing and hit a shot which was going for the far corner. But a defender scrambled it off the goal line. Then Harvey Owen was sent clear and he fired a low hard shot past the keeper to make it 2 - 1.He then had another shot which hit the bar and the defence scrambled away. Harvey was again sent clear and he hit a hard shot which went just over the bar. The ref then blew the whistle and the game was over. It was a really good effort by the boys against a quality Upper Beeding side. After the match the Upper Beeding manager complemented me on my tactics and team and he said what a good side we were. He said we had done our division proud and thought we would comfortably compete in division b if we were promoted .I thanked the boys again and gave the Man of the Match to the whole team for their efforts.

Reigate 10 - 0 Albury Eagles
Just ten players for this encounter with the top side in our division, producing a repeat scoreline of our meeting just before Christmas.
Reigate totally dominated the match, one reason being that our usual pair of centre backs were missing through unfortunate broken nose and broken finger injuries.
Sam Schoen and Robert Moorcroft (MoM) deputised to good effect, with Matt Cox working tirelessly in midfield, but the waves of Reigate’s attacking were relentless.
I do not remember the home keeper even needing to take a goal kick!
This result will seriously dent our chances of promotion now.

Twin Oaks 7-0 Albury Eagles
This week we just did not get going. We came up against a very good Twin Oaks side. But we were under strength with some kids away as it was half term and our substitutes let us down at the eleventh hour and we didn’t have the cover to replace them. But credit to the boys that came in and did their best. The good thing was Forest Row drew 1-1 with Old Dorkinians which was the best result possible for us. We are still 4th in the league and in with a very good chance of getting promotion. But we must get victories in our next 2 matches ,both at home against East Grinstead this week coming and then Forest Row the following week. Twin Oaks were a very good passing side and we just couldn’t match them on the day. As we didn’t have any subs, tiredness became a factor in the second half. We trailed 4-0 at halftime, and just couldn’t recover in the 2nd half. But man of the match went to James Ellenger who was tenacious in the tackle and really fought for every ball.
Thanks again to everybody for all your efforts. John Caley

Ewhurst 2-5 Albury Eagles
Two short games combined to produce this result, as we tried some new positions for a number of players.
We also welcomed back Finlay Grogan at centre back, who has been missing since October with a serious knee injury.
Albury raced to a 4-0 lead in the first game on an extremely sticky Ewhurst pitch. That cushion gave us plenty of options for experimentation, and the lads all found the morning a really useful workout. Tony Hern

Albury Eagles 9-1 Copthorne
Wow!
Everything clicked today, with a strong core restored to the team as we welcomed back Hugh Graves (recovery from a broken nose) whilst Finlay Grogan was able to play the whole 70 minutes at centre back after last week’s run-out at Ewhurst.
Sensing the 10-man opposition would be vulnerable, we went for an attacking start with a 3-4-3 formation, and this inspired the boys to completely run riot.
Six up at half time, (I thought the stiff northeasterly wind was worth at least a couple of goals) the scoring was steady, with some fine moves and great passing, and a tremendous boost for our end of season run in.
Hat-tricks from Jack Berringer and Hugh Graves (MoM), with Sam Schoen, Matt Cox and Lewis Upton completing the scorefest.
Everybody had a truly great game!

Albury 0-5 East Grinstead
The game was played in very windy conditions. Albury were losing 0-2 at halftime. I felt we were still in the game if we could just score in the second half. But we just couldn’t get going and East Grinstead played very well and basically outplayed us in every department. They scored 3 more goals in the second half running out comfortable 0-5 winners.I do think the boys have been very overconfident over the season and all of a sudden they have lost a couple of games and the confidence has plummetted. But we can put things right by winning next week.
I have told the kids that our game against Forest Row is now so so important. If we lose against them our chances of promotion will all but be over.We have gone from a position where we controlled our own destiny to a position where we are now relying on others helping us out.

Eagles Trip to Majedski
Albury Eagles’ status as a Charter Standard Club with the FA gave us access to 25 free tickets to see England’s U21s take on Norway on Tuesday evening (28th Feb) at Reading’s Madejski stadium.
There was a great atmosphere in the ground which everyone enjoyed, and three home goals to cheer as England ran out comfortable 3-1winners.
We allocated the tickets on a firstcome-first served basis, and it is quite likely that this opportunity will reoccur in the near future.
Keep up to date with results from all our teams by checking our website,
