Albury Eagles 3-0 Partridge Green

Saturdays 3-0 win over Partridge Green was very important.Allthough I thought it was one of our worst performances, the result was all important. After playing Partridge Green away the previous week I decided to change formation to try and capitalise on Partridge Greens slow defence. But we were very slow and lethargic and against a better team we may have been punished.Jake Nurse opened the scoring with a chip that looped over the keeper and into the net. That was 2 goals in 2 appearances for Jake!Harvey Owen was then put through and side footed his shot past the keeper to make it 2-0.Just before half-time Harvey struck again with a shot that flew past the keeper to make it 3-0.Harvey has now scored 16 goals this season and is well on the way to the golden boot! The second half was a dire stale affair.Partridge Green having the better of the few chances that were made. The game just ran its course and Albury ended up 3-0 winners.Man of the match was Jake Nurse for his efforts up front.

AlburyEagles 1–0 Brockham Whites

The Eagles kept a full house of supporters on tender hooks and entertained with great football - distracting them from freezing conditions.

With only one statistic verified, it is worth reporting that Eagles had 20 shots on goal, and won 10 corners during the game.

The team worked hard in the first half but despite numerous shots on goal and corners, goals eluded them. Sam Parsons, Will Onslow and Fraser Millis all had chances denied. Tactical substitutions

bringing on Tristan Moses and Joe Mapp towards the end of the first half, despite promising moves and increased possession, still saw no goals at half time.

The second half saw the same frustrations despite the hard work of the whole team especially player of the week Harry Ford and some great runs with the ball by Oliver Stephens and Tristan Moses who were both defied by the Brockham keeper. The only goal finally came from a direct free kick on the edge of the goal area confidently taken by Will Onslow. Brockham proved a strong and resilient team with some good individual players who were particularly dangerous on breaks against the run of play. But Eagles Caption Alex Connolly and goal keeper Oli Turner made sure these attacks were denied a goal.

Four league wins, twelve points and 11 goals difference, Trevor reminded the team to keep their feet on the ground. Andrew Lewis

BrockhamBlues 0-1 Albury Griffins

This week we faced Brockham Blue away from home, who had taken over as league leaders following our victory last week over Tadworth. Once again we got off to the ideal start when Adam Clark scored from a well struck shot in the bottom corner after about three minutes. In fact for the first ten minutes it looked like we would win quite comfortably as we dominated play and created some reasonable chances. However, as the half wore on Brockham started to come back into the game and it became clear that we were in for a tough match if we were to take all three points.

The second half was fought out in the middle of the pitch with chances few and far between for both teams. Our midfield and defence battled for every ball and showed great determination under pressure. With a minute left Brockham broke through but stand-in keeper George Mackenzie was quick off his line to break down the attack and ensure that we kept our first clean sheet.

The final whistle came shortly after with the score at 1-0 to us, taking us to the top of the league by one point.

Once again, all the boys played their part but Player of the Week went to Ryan Lyntott for a battling performance in the centre of defence.

U7s visit to Tadworth

19.11.05

The U7’s put out two mixed ability 8-a-side teams last Saturday against Tadworth. It was a chilly morning, a good half hour drive away, but every boy turned up with a high proportion of parents providing vocal support. Having just passed a pitch inspection both teams embarked on their first competitive games as Albury Eagles.

All the pre match nerves and excitement seemed to disappear, and both teams played admirably with some super football. Albury ended up winning all four games with a cumulative score of approximately

12-3 !!

Special mentions go to the following:

Harry Poil – player of the week for an exceptional all round performance

Rhys Trevelyan – top scorer with 5 goals

Sam Chamberlain – best goal (dribbled ¾ length of pitch before placing ball in bottom right hand corner)

Howard Blackbee and Callum Darnell – keeping completely clean sheets in goal.

Everyone contributed to the day, including Tadworth who were generous and accommodating hosts.

Now to games played on the first Saturday in December.

A nice mild morning after the frost of last weekend…………….

U13s

AlburyEagles 1-3 Brockham B

03.12.05

A very even game, which could

have gone either way.

Each game is now a tough assignment

for this squad, having recently lost

another centre forward to Saturday

rugby!

Lewis also denied himself a game in goal by breaking his heel whilst jumping out of bed!

Some excellent defensive play kept the Brockham lead to a single goal at the break, with Ross and Hugh particularly effective at centre back, Will H keeping us in the game with a string of fine saves. An equaliser from Will W soon followed after the restart, and for a 15 minute spell, it looked as though Albury would edge the game.

Hopes were dashed though when Brockham scored twice with two neat breakaway goals in the last 10.

Albury Eagles 6-2 Horsham Tigers

03.12.05

Just to says well done! to the boys for getting another win under our belt. We played the bottom side which on paper should have been an easy win for us. But this match was a potential banana skin! We played this week with only 12 players and minus our captain Dan Kingshott who was on a tournament day with his Sunday team Aldershot. After shuffling around my team and playing a couple of players out of position we managed to get the 3 points from this game. After some dogged work by the Horsham defence we finally broke them down with a goal from Jake Nurse. Once we scored the first goal we were on our way. Albury led 3 - 0 at halftime and looked comfortable. Not a fantastic performance but we did enough to win it. In the second half Horsham pulled 2 goals back but by then Albury had added 3 more goals to win the match 6 - 2.Goal scorers were Jake Nurse (4), Harvey Owen and Chris Caley who was captain for the day on his birthday. 2 Man of the matches this week. Jake Nurse for his 4 goals and Josh Lawson for his good defending and support play from left back.

Well done. John Caley

Albury Eagles 3-1 Brockham Red

03.12.05

With the full squad available, Coach Trevor issued clear instructions …"I want the game won in the first half and no goals conceded". At half time the message was reinforced …"Any goals conceded would see many laps of the Heath at the next training" and the debrief at the end was … "Great result, some great individual play but the worst football teamwork of the season". [Ed. Is he never happy?]

Now the game. The Eagles got quickly into the game, identified the strong Brockham players, had a lot of possession and some great runs (Oliver Stephens, Tristan Moses, Harry Ford) but a lack of teamwork and passing saw too many tackles lost.

The first goal initiated by Tristan, passed to Joe Mapp who passed back to see Tristan stretch the goal keeper and the ball was in off the post. Tristan’s second goal, a left footed shot found the top right hand corner of the goal.

Player of the week Alex Connolly was excellent in defence throughout and played some great balls forward. Sam Parsons who came on in the second half was full of energy and long runs. Fraser Millis persistence was rewarded with a good follow up goal after an initial save was not cleared by the Brockham defence. The conceded goal then came five minutes from the end. Andrew Lewis

U9s

HolmburyWolvs 1-6 AlburyGriffins

03.12.05

Having gone top of the league after our last game, the Griffins were keen to maintain our unbeaten record against Holmbury Wolves. Unfortunately we seemed to be half asleep at the start of the game and Holmbury created some reasonable chances. However, we took the lead when George Mackenzie was put through and slotted the ball under the Holmbury keeper into the far corner of the goal. Unfortunately any ideas we had of building on this lead were dashed before half time when the Holmbury striker hit an unstoppable equaliser into the top corner.

At half time the team were politely(!) asked by the coach to raise their game and responded accordingly with a much stronger second half performance all round. We defended as a team, battled in the midfield and started to find our passing when going forward. This much improved performance yielded five second half goals with Adam Clark’s hard work as the lone striker rewarded with a goal, Matt Foster scoring two and George Mackenzie completing his hat-trick.

So the final score was 6-1 and we remain top by a point.

Man of the Match went to George for a battling midfield display rounded off by a well taken hat-trick.
