Issue No 42

First newsletter of the new season, and match reports so far feature games from the Horsham League, where the season began in earnest on

10th September.

With postponements in our younger age groups, action in the Tadworth league begins this Saturday 8th Oct.

For 2005-06, we have three 11 a side teams representing Albury at u11 to u13s, so let us begin with a look at the u11s, playing their first season on the full size pitch.…..

U11s

10.09.05

BalcombeRaiders 2-2 Albury Eagles

Our first game of the season took us to Balcombe. This was a very close game and we conceded the opener. William Walker made some fantastic saves in goal and kept the score 1 - 0 at half time.

In the second half we had the majority of the play and took a 2 - 1 lead which we held until deep, deep!! into injury time when unfortunately Balcombe managed to equalise. Harry Good grabbed both of our goals, MOM this week goes to Joe Simpson who worked really hard and had a hand in both goals.

U11s

Albury 10-1 Brockham Whites

One of our more local home games was played at Alfold on Saturday. The game started fairly evenly but we soon took the upper hand and having most of the possession we took a 4 - 1 lead. In the second half it was more of the same with some fantastic football played by the whole team. Unfortunately for William he had very little to do but when they did manage an attack, he pulled off a good save. In the end we ran out 10 - 1 winners.

Hatricks from Harry Good and Daniel Cannon were supported by 2 from Jack Gill and 1 each for Joe Simpson and Henry Schoen. MOM this week was Daniel Cannon for his direct and attacking play.

Chesworth Rovers 1-2 AlburyEagles

The Eagles were at Horsham against Chesworth Rovers on Saturday with just the 11 players. Chesworth were well organised and put us under pressure straight from the off. They took an early lead after some good possession. This gave us a wake up call and the rest of the first half was a lot more evenly fought. Ben Hurman poked away a left footer which took us to half time all square.

After the break we regrouped and played with a lot more shape and organisation. William Walker in goal and the defence played very well and were equal to all Chesworth had to offer. Harry had the ball in the back of the net but this was disallowed for some reason or other. The lads reacted to this in the very best way possible by scoring in the next attack, this time Harry's goal stood. We held this 2 - 1 lead through injury time to gain a well earned 3 points.

MOM this week goes to Oliver Harris for some great work going forward and more importantly coming back, he never stop running for the whole game.

Great team performance.

U11s

Albury Eagles 3-1 Copthorne

We played our first game at the Heath against Copthorne on Saturday. In the first half we had the majority of play but Copthorne defended very well, the deadlock was only broken through an own goal. In the second half we again had the lions share of play but struggled to breakdown the Copthorne defence. Harry Good managed to score twice though with the best coming from Daniel Cannon running down the right wing and delivering a great cross which Harry finished well. We lost a bit of concentration in the last 5 minutes and Copthorne scored a consolation goal.

MOM This week goes to James Hern for some great defensive tackling in the midfield and creating numerous opportunities for the front line.

Mark Hurman

The u12s have embarked on their first league programme at 11 a side, and have a squad of 19 players to face this season with.

They made a great start……….

Barns Green 0-7 Albury Eagles

What a fantastic way to kick off our first match in the Horsham league. A 7-0 win vs Barns Green. The boys played well and passed the ball around really well. Everyone made a fantastic contribution and it was lovely to see the boys enjoying their football. Albury started off really well taking control of the game and playing so well it looked like Albury were the home team! After initial jousting for control Albury started to pile on the pressure. Keith Fagg had a shot on the edge of the penalty area saved by the keeper. Then after a defensive mix up after a corner, Chris Caley swiveled and hit a shot that rebounded off the bar and away. Then halfway through the first half Harvey Owen broke through the Barns Green defence to hit a low shot into the corner of the net for 1-0. In the second half Albury took a grip of the game and scored 6 goals without reply. Goal scorers were Harvey Owen 3,Calum McCarron 1, Dom Higgitt 1, Alex Shelton1. Man of the Match was Harvey Owen for his all round play and his 4 goals.

Well Done Harvey!

U12s

Albury Eagles 4 - 0 Billingshurst

Another good performance from the boys. Man of the match this week was Dominic Higgitt for his tireless work and wing play. Goalscorers today were Harvey Owen (2),Chris Caley and Dom Higgitt. This was a harder game than last week against a Billingshurst team who had been relegated to our division from the previous season. Thanks to everyone for your help in preparation for the game and the clearing up afterwards, goals etc and to those who acted as officials. John Caley

East Grinstead P-P Albury Eagles

Albury had only 10 players available, so were able to effect their one cancelled game this season without incurring a league fine!

01.10.05

Forest Row 5-2 Albury Eagles

On now to the U13s, who battled really hard for points last year.

Having strengthened over the

summer,we waited to see if the other

teams had matched our preparation!

U13s

10.09.05

Ashington 6 - 2 Albury

On a very warm still morning, an exciting match developed as the teams probed for openings.

After a tense opening 20 minutes, Ashington seemd to move up a gear, and rifled three goals without reply before the break.

We gained more midfield ball at the beginning of the second half and were rewarded with two well taken Sam Kaye goals, before Ashington resumed control of the game by scoring three more to run out comfortable 6-2 winners.

MoM to Will Westcott for excellent work in midfield and left back.

U13s

17.09.05

Albury Eagles 0-5 Chiddingfold

Having scored 13 the previous week, Eagles were doing well holding the visitors to a single goal lead until 10 mins from time, when three goals were knocked in in as many minutes.

Another at the end left Eagles with a 5 goal deficit which really flattered the visiting Chids.

Finlay and Sam Kaye were absent today and with only one sub available, stamina really told in the last few minutes.

MoM to Sam Schoen at right back for persistently denying Chid the chance to attack, Hugh had a dominant game too at centre half. TH

U13s

24.09.05

Copthorne 3 - 4 Albury Eagles

The game was a close run thing. Copthorne probably edged matters in the first half as they were playing downhill and with plenty of pressure they edged ahead 2-1, with penalties to both sides.
The second half was nip and tuck all the way with the lead changing on several occasions with Albury finally coming out on top at 4-3 with some splendid passing play by the forwards and good finishing. The Albury defence was on the back foot for the last 10 minutes but the defence and some excellent goalkeeping kept Copthorne out.
The match was played in a very fair and sportsmanlike manner between two closely matched teams.

Goals – Sam Kaye (2, 1 pen), Jack Berringer and the winner from Bob Moorcroft. Richard Upton

U13s

01.10.05

Albury 2 –6 East Grinstead

The u13s began this game really strongly, scoring after just 2 mins through a confident finish from Jack Berringer, but wayward shooting for the rest of the half coupled with defensive blunders saw East Grinstead leading 1-3 at the break. The pattern continued through the second half, with only a trademark Will Westcott lob answering a further three goals from the visitors.

Good performances today from Sam Schoen defensive tackling, Matt Cox left and central midfield and MoM Ross Beasley in defence and midfield.
