Latest news features games from the past two weekends – ten games involving Albury sides, and plenty of goals flying in, with one of our teams hitting 9 !! Playing conditions could not have been more contrasting, too – horizontal rain and gale one week; fine sunny and still the next.
To the u8s first, and some excellent results at the weekend, as John Duff reports: The Griffins went on a goal rampage against Tadworth. After a slow start during which Laurie Owen made two good saves the Griffins were 2-0 at half time. Griffins then went into overdrive and scored a further 7 goals in the second half. Phillip Smith got a hat trick as did captain Harvey Marshall. Further goals came from Chris Brookes , Joel Curran and George Duff. All goals were well taken with 2 unstoppable thunderbolts from George Duff and Phillip Smith the pick. All credit to Tadworth who never gave up and were unlucky not to score. Man of the match was Harvey Marshall who covered all of the pitch and worked non stop. Final score 9-0
Meanwhile…. Another fine win for the table topping Eagles who for the second match running beat a powerful Brockham team. This is now six wins from six. Tom Cantoni had another fine game scoring 4 goals with George Blackbee adding a fifth. Lewys Bonds was unlucky not to score on a number of occasions forcing some fine saves from the Brockham keeper. Having been 4 -1up Brockham scored a further 2 goals before the Eagles added a fifth to run out deserved winners 5-3. Man of the match was Tom Cantoni for his goal exploits. Mixed fortunes for John Caley’s u10s: Table topping Tadworth visited the Heath, scoring four without reply - still a good result considering Tadworth are putting 8, 9 or10 goals past most other teams! Man of the match was Dan Kingshott who played well in defence. Then, last weekend, the u10s put in a fine performance against Walton, with an excellent 7-3 home win, keeping the ‘10s’ in 2nd league position. Man of the match for Chris Caley who terrorised the Walton defence with his wing-play and frightening their keeper with his shooting .Albury came from behind 3 times in a game they were losing 2 - 3 at half time!
The u9s have had two heavy defeats, against well drilled Tadworth and Brockham sides, only scoring once while conceding 12 – one direct from a corner from James Hern.
At u7/u6 level, a series of four games were played at Longacre School, with 8 or 9 players a side… Great performances not only from TOM CAIN (taking the pass and putting it into the back of the net) but also RALPH HARVEY-JEFFERSON in goal. Albury were better at tackling and gaining control of the ball in the "ruck", whilst Longacre, who had a slightly older squad, were better at passing the ball out of the "ruck" and taking it forward. Henry Stevens, Alfie Minto, and Lewis and Thomas Haldenby also had good games.
The u11s recorded their fifth straight win last weekend, with a fine 3-1 win against Guildford 2000. Great performances from Ross Beasley (defence) and Finlay Grogan, Will Hern in goal, Jack Clifford with some fine lay offs and Chris Williams (hat-trick man!)
