Four weeks since the last news, but what with two half term weekends, and some iffy ground conditions, there have been very few games played.
Congratulations to the u8s squads for finishing off their league programmes so strongly. The Eagles have topped their league, whilst the Griffins are pushing hard for a play-off place… 28th Feb. The long awaited return match between the Griffins and St Annes resulted in a 1-0 home win. Griffins started well with Phillip Smith and Harvey Marshall both going close. When threatened by St Annes the Griffins defence more than held its own with Alexander Dangerfield having his usual solid game. The deadlock was broken in the 2nd half when Oliver Cose won a throw in which resulted in Lewys Bonds long throw into the area being handballed . From the penalty which the St Anne's goalkeeper saved Chris Brookes whipped in the rebound. One of St Annes rare attacks towards the end was thwarted by a last minute tackle by George Duff . The Griffins are currently second in their league and if they win their last match they will qualify for the finals. The unbeaten Eagles played Walton- on- the-Hill and maintained their undefeated record drawing 0-0. These were the first points dropped all season by the Eagles who have already qualified for the finals and top their league. Colby Silver and George Stevens had strong games at the back and both George Blackbee and Joel Curren were denied blatant penalties.(according to Tim Stevens). Freddie Wall had a good game in midfield and Jack Childerstone kept another clean sheet. Liam Jones nearly nicked a winner towards the end of the match but overall another fine result for the Eagles. 6th.March Eagles maintained their unbeaten record by beating second placed Brockham 3 - 2. The Eagles have now won their pool winning 7 out of their 8 matches and drawing the other. Lewys Bonds opened the scoring with George Blackbee adding a second. Brockham came back strongly scoring twice and it was left to Jack ChiIderstone to score the winner with a shot that cannoned off the underside of the bar. Edward Babbington and George Stevens both had good games for the Eagles. John Duff Meanwhile, at u9s, and following a heavy defeat at Brockham, David Harris took his side back to the Brockham Big Field to take on the league leaders. Advising that his players be fed raw steak for brekkers prior to the game certainly did the trick, as the 9s pulled off a fantastic win, with James Hern dribbling from the half way line in the last minute to net the only goal just as the final whistle blew. Phew!!
