Newsletter Issue No 27 06/05/2004

There has not been a huge amount of football action to report within the past five weeks, as the Eagle’s second full season draws to a close.

The League campaigns were done and dusted by the end of March, with very creditable performances from all teams.

Within the Tadworth School League programme, our u8s have finished 2nd and 4th out of 14 starting teams.
The u9s squad finished 6th from eight sides, whilst the u10s finished in runners up spot in their division.

The u11s completed a programme of 14 friendly games this winter with a recent win at home against West Byfleet Scorpions.
As we have often seen this winter, Jack Clifford provided a splendid hat-trick, complemented by goalmouth mellay type strikes from Finlay Grogan and Steven Robinson, in what was a very even contest.
Man of the Match was awarded to Sam Kaye, a newcomer from Guildford, enabling us to start the game with 16 players!
Given squad size, the u11s players and parents are now considering league action in the Horsham area for next winter.

Training transferred from the Heath to Tillingbourne school, Chilworth, for the two Saturdays after Easter, as squads began to concentrate on honing their six-a-side skills for the forthcoming tournament at Guildford Saints this coming weekend.
This then gave Roland Woods two extra weeks to prepare the Heath for cricket, where the first game was played on 24th April.
Junior Cricket on Friday nights returns to the Heath this coming Friday, 7th May. For regulars, you know the drill by now.
For newcomers to the idea, simply report to the Cricket Pavilion for a 6pm start, where Ian Salisbury, off-spinner for Surrey and England will be starting proceedings with ACC Chairman Drew Nicholson.
Gerry McGuire will have the Barbecue well stoked up, and the Bar will be open too. Many find it the perfect start to the weekend!
As with Eagles, children will be grouped by school year, and allotted coaches, several of which are now qualified to English Cricket Board Level 1. Dress code – T shirt, shorts and trainers.

Our u9 and u10 squads attended Presentation Morning at Tadworth on 24th April, where mini-games were held, followed by League Presentation shields to the winners.
Certificates were handed out to all players, swiftly followed by a doughnut free-for-all.

Our u10s squad are now gearing up for 11 a side play by the autumn.
They are likely to follow the current u11s in playing a series of friendlies, prior to joining a league in 2005.

Trip to Reading FC.
Our very successful day out to Reading last year was repeated last Saturday, with 30 Eagles and some 20 parents enjoying a 90 minute training session, followed by an exciting Nationwide league fixture, Reading v West Brom. Steve Coppell’s Blue and White Army cheered on the home side to a 1-0 win, thanks to a goal in the last couple of minutes.
The coaches, training our Eagles on a superb £1m indoor astroturf pitch, complemented the players on their skills and good behaviour.
Player of the Day was awarded to Harvey Marshall.

Seven Eagles teams travel to St Peters RC School, Merrow this weekend, for the 6 a side tournament, hosted by Guildford Saints FC.
There will be Eagles teams to cheer on throughout the weekend, so if you fancy giving some support, please do. Start timings are 9am and 1.30pm.

Sat 8th am – u7s and u11s; pm – u9s
Sun 9th am – u8s; pm – u10s

Training has now been completed for the spring, but there will be one last hurrah for the Season as we host Euro 2004 Fun Day at Tillingbourne School on Saturday 5th June, Noon – 4pm.
The day will revolve around quickfire 5 a side matches for all, medals and prize giving for the season’s achievements. Barbecue too !!
If you know of any new players who may like to come along, could you ask them to get in touch with me – thanks.

Thanks to Albury Parish Council…
A £250 grant was recently very kindly donated by our Parish Council, as an award to a worthy local cause!
Our chairman, Sage Henson, will be reporting to APC on our recent activities on 10th May.
