Newsletter Issue No 28 26/06/2004

It’s been a while since the last newsletter, and this just keeps you up to date with news until we get underway again in early September.

Our season drew to a close with seven Albury teams entered at the 6-a-side
Guildford Saints Tournament,
contested over the weekend 8th/9th May at St Peter’s RC School, Merrow.

U11s lose in final
The u11s won all four initial group games without conceding a goal, before proceeding to the knockout stages.
A tense quarterfinal was won in the last minute of extra time, 3-2 v Guildford City Boys, thanks to a Will Westcott strike; In the Semi, a firm Jack Clifford header from an excellent Will Westcott cross from the right, saw off Abbey Rangers 1-0, before our side was completely blown away by a very slick Portsmouth based side Meon Milton, who won 6-0!
Fast, pinpoint passing, playing pinball in our area was not a lot of fun to play against; all you could do was just admire their amazing skills.
I have not seen a better team at this level! Tony Hern

John Caley put together an excellent Euro 2004 Fun Day at Tillingbourne School, Chilworth on 5th June, which saw two tournaments taking place and 45 participating children representing
international teams from England France Spain and Portugal in quickfire 5 minute matches.
The day was a great success with
England winning the younger group, and coming bottom in the older u9-u11 group!

Big thanks to Gerry the BBQ Maister, ably assisted by our serving ladies and also to the kind Mums who made the lovely cakes for teatime.
Medals were then presented to all squad members from the six age groups, before the awarding of trophies for outstanding achievement during the season……..
