Albury Eagles 4 – 0 Redhill St Josephs

A dominant Eagles team took 4 minutes to break the deadlock Nathaniel Hallam’s pinpoint pass from midfield finding Sam Moldon free on the edge of the box. His quick turn and shot was only parried by the Redhill goalie straight into the path of Hallam whose shot went low into the corner to make it 1-0.

Straight from the kick-off Albury gained possession and got a throw in which was quickly taken by Jay Lawson. His long throw was headed out by the Redhill defence straight to Hallam whose long range effort went just wide.

It was not until 11 minutes into the match that Redhill managed their first attack on the Albury goal and a high lob needed Archie Wells in goal to gather the ball at full stretch. With two Sam Moldon efforts hitting the cross bar and Jay Lawson and Archie Eve both going close the half time whistle blew with the Eagles wondering how they were only 1-0 in front after playing most of the first half in the Redhill half.

Redhill started the second half better managing to get the ball into the Albury half but this left them stretched and some lovely one touch football from defence ended with Lawson setting up Moldon whose shot rebounds off the crossbar into the path of Hallam who fires the ball low into the goal 2-0.  A minute later and Eagles had a corner which was cleverly taken by Lawson pulling the ball back to ‘Man of the Match’ Hallam free on the edge on the box who again shoots low and hard into the bottom corner 3-0.

Eagles were straight on the attack again and Sam Moldon’s shot is well saved by the Redhill goalie. The resulting corner is taken by Hallam who picks out Moldon and his first time strike fires in to make it 4-0. With Albury pushing for more goals efforts by Moldon and Lawson were well saved and the final whistle blew.

Man of the match:- Nathanael Hallam.

TEAM:- Archie Wells (goalie), Brent Savage, Jasper Whitefield, Nathaniel Hallam, Archie Eve, Jay Lawson, Sam Moldon, Daniel Cansell (sub).

U10 Tadworth League

27.03.10

Albury Griffins 6 – 0 Holmbury Wolves C

Albury Griffins ensured themselves of 2nd place in the Tadworth Primary ‘B’ League with a convincing home victory. The tone of game was set in the first minute as James Foulsham went on a strong run down the Albury left and squared the ball for Will Edwards to side-foot the ball home. Playing some excellent passing football, Albury pushed forward and were rewarded with two quick goals from the impressive James Foulsham to take a 3-0 lead after ten minutes. With little opportunity to attack, Holmbury kept playing and nearly pulled goal back but were denied by a good save from Ross Gilding. Albury were on top though and more opportunities came their way with the Holmbury keeper making several important saves and Will Edwards rattling the crossbar. Edwards finally managed to find the back of the net for the second time before half-time with a great shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Half-time: 4-0

Albury rang the changes for the second half but continued to have the better of the play. Will Edwards and Luke Pecorelli were unlucky not to add to the total and once again the Holmbury keeper was proving a formidable barrier. Holmbury kept working hard and only a good save from Liam Langridge-Barker and some last ditch defending from Cameron Potts prevented them from reducing the lead. However, chances kept coming for Albury and eventually Man-of-the-Match Will Edwards set Ross Gilding up for his first goal of the season following some good work in midfield from Marco Rolandelli and Joe Lockhart. It was Rolandelli who had the last word with an excellent individual goal beating four Holmbury players before finding the corner of the net.

Man of the Match Will Edwards.

Team: Ross Gilding, Will Edwards, Liam Langridge-Barker, Alexander Potts, Luke Pecorelli, Cameron Potts, Joe Lockhart, James Foulsham, Marco Rolandelli

Albury Eagles  7 - 2  Horsham Sparrows

The Albury Eagles under 14s finished off their last home game of the 2009/2010 season with a good win against the Horsham Sparrows. Christopher Brooks started the scoring with a stunning free-kick from 30 yards out that flew over the Sparrows defence and keeper to arc into the top right hand corner of the goal. Phil Smith added another to put the Eagles further ahead shortly before half time.

The second half saw Horsham pull a goal back , but Albury lifted their game again with Phil Smith and Tom Beazley adding two more goals. Horsham broke down the Eagles defence for their second goal but an on form Christopher Brooks, the man of the match netted three more goals to put the game beyond the Horsham side.

Albury Eagles 3 – 2 Holmbury Wolves

Albury Eagles won out in a closely fought match with Holmbury Wolves by holding onto a well deserved first-half lead and withstanding a spirited fight-back by the visitors in the second half.

It was 5 minutes into the first half when Albury took the lead with a well worked goal created by the two Sam’s linking up and creating the opportunity for Jay to tuck the ball neatly past the Wolves goalie.  A second goal came after great work from Sam Moldon weaving his magic down the right wing before crossing the ball right across the face of the goal and Daniel taking up the perfect far post position to finish with some aplomb.

At this stage Albury looked as if they would dominate the match and score freely.  Man of the match Sam Moldon created persistent problems for the Wolves defence down the right side and it was no surprise when he won the free kick which led to the third goal with Jay shooting strongly past the keeper from a simple lay-off.

The strong rain continued in the second half and the pitch condition worsened considerably making it hard for the players.  Both sides worked hard to close down the opposition and despite many good moves and well worked passes goals were hard to come by.  Excellent blocks from the Wolves goalie kept the Eagles at bay whilst at the other end two scrambled goals came from successive corners to bring the Wolves right back into the match.

Albury were still creating the better chances but needed a goal to calm their nerves.  They seemed certain to score when Sam Breach was put through on goal in the final minutes but once again the woodwork denied them.  Wolves, too, were still a threat and there was a palpable sense of relief amongst the sodden home supporters when the final whistle blew.

Final score: 3-2

Goals: Jay Lawson 2, Daniel Cansell

Man of the Match: Sam Moldon

Eagles Team: Archie Wells (G), Brent Savage, Jasper Whitefield, Nathaniel Hallam, Jay Lawson, Sam Moldon, Sam Breach, Daniel Cansell

U9 Tadworth League

20.03.10

Albury Griffins 2 – 2 Tadworth

Scorers: Sam Hallam (2)

The Griffins played this week with the energy and passion they showed last week and were very close to securing their first victory.

The first half saw the Griffins dominate with shots from Luca Crosta, Alex Hill, and  Tom Perceval each hitting the bar or post.

The only time Tadworth broke away in the first half Oliver Grieveson tracked back and produced a superbly timed tackle in the Griffins box to knock the ball out of play. Despite the pressure from the Griffins the game remained dead locked at 0-0

In the second half the Griffins kept up the pressure with Lois Edwards distributing the ball out to the wings and some excellent work from her and Mikey Howell to set up Sam Hallam to score the first goal, a real strikers goal taken instinctively from 2 yards out. With the momentum behind them and a similar move this time with Luca and Archie Stevens working well together they put Sam in for his second.

2-0 up with 10 minutes to play Tadworth managed a scrappy goal which amounted to a scramble in the box with the keeper Angus Lovatt arguably having the ball kicked out of his hands. Tadworth then produced a fine move with a fantastic shot to equalise. The Griffins pushed on again with real determination with several excellent shots notably from Tom Perceval but in the end after a thrilling game the result ended 2-2.

Well done to all
