So far we have got on pretty well with the fixture programme.

Although the wet November saw plenty of called off games in the Horsham area, all our home fixtures have gone ahead. Testament to the quality of the pitch drainage at Albury and Tillingbourne School.

However, increasingly cold weather this week looks set to cause fixture disruption this coming weekend.

Albury Eagles 2 – 4 Dorking Saints Lions

Well worked goals from Lewis Keen and Christopher Brooks were a delight to see but were not enough to see off a well drilled team from Dorking who were looking for revenge after Albury knocked them out of this year’s cup competition. In an even first half, Albury Eagles under 14s competed with the league leaders Dorking team on all levels with Alex Dangerfield dealing with the Dorking attack and gaining the man of the match trophy for his efforts. For all of Albury's attempts they were unable to find the finishing touch that they needed in front of goal to take a lead. George Duff's long range shot might have given Albury a goal but George saw his shot pass just inches above the Dorking cross bar, and it was an unstoppable strike from Dorking that saw Albury leave the field at half time one goal down.

Albury levelled the score early in the second half when Christopher Brooks followed in from his long throw to whip in a cross that set up a waiting Lewis Keen, who turned the ball into the Dorking net. As Albury pushed forward to try to gain an advantage it left space for Dorking to hit Albury on the break and in the space of ten minutes Albury saw themselves go from 1-1 to 4-1 down. Albury's spirit did not leave them though, and their hard work saw Christopher Brooks rise above the Dorking defence to meet a Tom Beazley corner to head the ball into Dorking net just before full time.

Although we didn’t get the result we wanted the Albury Eagles once gain showed that they can play to a standard that more than matches the best in this under 14s Horsham and District A league.

Albury Griffins 2 - 2 Royal United
A battling team performance from the Griffins earned them a share of the points
against table-topping Royal United. Even more remarkably the result came only 7 days after having been comprehensively beaten by the same opposition 10-1.
The work the boys put in during their midweek training session certainly paid off this time round. Whilst the Griffins continued to look threatening going
forward, they also put in a well-organised and tenacious defensive performance.
In the first half, Royal pegged Albury into their own half for much of the time but were only able to threaten with a handful of long range efforts - each of
which was capably dealt with by Alex Schumacher in goal. Shortly before the break, two defensive errors in quick succession saw the visitors take a 2-0
lead, though they never looked like running away with the game as they had the previous week.
The second half saw the Griffins grow in confidence and they began to create chances of their own. Will Norton and Tom Sayers looked dangerous taking on
their respective fullbacks, whilst Harry Hayes and Oscar Saxby made life difficult for Royal's centre backs. The Griffins finally broke through with a cross shot from Tom Sayers that ricocheted into the net off a defender. The
equaliser was a subtle flick from Harry Hayes following a corner by Oscar Saxby.
But the real stars of the game were Alex in goal and the boys at the back.
Harry Turner, Max Bewsey, David Hill, Ross Hamer and Jack Taylor all put in a real shift of defensive work which limited Royal's chances in the second half.
Such a strong, determined and well-organised performance really gives the boys
something to build on for the rest of the season.

Royal United 10 – 1 Albury Griffins

If ever there was a result that didn't reflect the performance it was today.
Despite playing some really good football when going forward, time and time again we failed to clear the ball at the back when we had a chance to do so.
Certainly a lot of good points to build on, not least of which was Charlie Balcombe's first goal of the season after good work from Peter and Will N on the left. Nice
finish Charlie!

Albury Eagles 9 – 0 Woodmansterne

The two teams met on a dry and cold sunny day although the pitch was a little wet. Albury Eagles started as they meant to go on and put the pressure straight onto Woodmansterne Hyde with 3 shots on goal within the first minute. But Woodmansterne keeper was good and kept them out. Just under 4 minutes into the game Sam Moldon scored the first of many goals through team effort.  The Eagles made a great show of the skills they had learnt on the Wednesday training session, and putting into practice their passing skills and keeping their positions so the team kept its shape throughout the whole match which made a real difference to the game even with a pitch invasion from the supporters club (Theo). Our players also showed us and the year coach Tim, they all have the potential for powerful shots on goal, and the Woodmansterne goalie was the only one to keep them out. Due to a minor injury to Jasper Whitefield he was substituted by James Foulsham in defence to stop Woodmansterne’s attempts on goal to the end of the first half.

Sam Moldon led the way, scoring the first 4 goals, then Sam Breach and Daniel Cansell scoring one goal each in the first half, ending with a 6-0 half time score.

The second half saw Sam Moldon continuing his streak with two more goals and unfortunately he picked up an injury and had to be taken off.  The team was changed around with Archie Wells coming out on pitch and Ross Gilding in goal, the game continued with more and more shots at goal with Daniel scoring the final goal shortly before the final whistle blew.

Man of the match – Sam Moldon
