Dorking Saints Lions      1 - 4     Albury Eagles

Albury Eagles under 14s claimed their place in the Horsham and District Presidents Cup semi-final with an outstanding win away to  last season’s A league and cup competition winners Dorking Saints. Christopher Brooks twice broke through the Dorking defence to claim a brace of goals to set Albury on their way to a well deserved victory. Tom Beazley added a third when unmarked on the edge of the penalty area, received the ball and after shifting the ball onto his right foot, sent a shot into the corner of the Dorking goal passing the diving Saints keeper. Another goal from Phil Smith made it 4-0 to Albury to strengthen their position at half time .

In the second half Dorking came back at Albury, but were only able to grab a single goal thanks to a tireless man of the match Harvey Marshall, who ran from the first whistle to dominate the centre of midfield. Great defensive performances by Tom Gill and Colby Silver also kept Dorking out of the game.

A jubilant Albury manager, John Duff  said ' A great result in beating the League A Champions and last years Cup Winners Dorking. Everyone played their part and everyone rose to the occasion. We actually outplayed and outfought a very competent Team. It just goes to show what we can do when we all turn up fully focussed and up for it !'.

Brockham Badgers 1 – 0 Albury Eagles

With Albury’s U10 head coach Tim Foulsham present for the match everyone knew the importance of this top of the table clash between these two evenly matched teams.  The weather was fine but with a bitterly cold easterly wind blowing throughout the match, and the ground heavy underfoot.

Eagles won the toss and kicked off on the small pitch which does not suit their free flowing passing game.  Straight away the Eagles got into their stride with Brockham looking the more nervous and some great play ended with Sam Breach’s shot from the edge of the box just going over the crossbar. Another attack resulted in a corner to the Eagles and this time Sam Moldon lost his marker and shot just the wrong side of the left hand post. After four minutes Brockham started coming into the game and a long range effort hit the cross bar and bounced on the line but was quickly cleared by Brent Savage. Both defences were strong with both teams working hard to cancel each other out, it was not until 15 minutes that the deadlock was broken, Brockham  reduced to shooting from outside the box hit a great shot which beat the unsighted Archie Wells, 1-0 Brockham. Straight from the restart Eagles almost replied with Nathaniel Hallam’s shot just inches wide of the right hand post. With the Eagles putting Brockham under constant pressure Archie Wells’ well hit shot hit the crossbar and Sam Moldon’s follow up was saved well by the Brockham keeper. The half time whistle blew and the Brockham manager was relieved to go in at half time with the score 1-0.

Brockham kicked off the second half but with the Eagles spotting a weakness in the Brockham goalie’s set pieces they kept the pressure on and Brockham were finding more of the game being played in their half of the pitch. A great ball from Sam Breach released a tightly marked Sam Moldon whose shot went just wide of the right hand post. With Brockham still reduced to shooting from distance Archie Wells was catching everything Brockham were throwing at him and a quick release setup Sam Moldon whose shot was fumbled by the Brockham goalie but  he recovered well and  just stopped the ball from crossing the line. With 5 minutes left Eagles made a sub and brought on Daniel Cansell for Archie Eve and with some great work again from Sam Moldon crossing from the right and with the goalie beaten Daniel Cansell found himself unmarked at the far post but just failed to direct the ball into the empty net with almost his first touch. Still the Eagles pressed for the equalizer and kept pressurizing the Brockham defence who were clearing the ball as far down the pitch at every opportunity but finding it coming straight back at them. The final whistle blew with the Eagles camped in the Brockham half, a fantastic game played in the spirit it should be.

Mogador 0 – 3 Albury Lions

Albury Lion’s Back on Form

The Albury Lions are back on form after a disappointing defeat to Heart’s Tigers last week, with a well deserved victory over Mogador Marvels. With an attacking formation, immediately from the kick-off, the front line of Will Shepherd, Jake Jordan, Dominic Hardesty and Chris King were pushing forward with determination to get an early breakthrough. The pressure was eventually rewarded during an attack when a lose ball was picked up at the edge of the area by Dominic Hardesty who knocked it through the crowd for the first goal giving the Lions a well deserved lead.

Continued pressure and good solid defence from Eden Parnell on the right and Connor Tidy on the left ensured that Mogador were always on the back-foot. Another lose ball on the edge of the area fell to Jake Jordan who pushed it through the Mogador defence and an unsighted keeper for number two.

The third goal came in the second half from Will Shepherd, as ever strong in central attack, despite the uphill gradient and terrible pitch conditions. Half time subs of Joe Young and Bo Bridges added to the plight of Mogador – this was one game the Lions were not going to let slip! Keeper Callum Cozens had quite a easy game with only a couple of through balls to contend with.

All in all, a well deserved victory which sees the team keeping up the pressure on the rest of the league.
