Brockham Badgers B  2 - 4     Albury Griffins

Yes, we finally managed to get our first points on the board this season with
another strong team performance.
Unluckiest player of the week, and probably of the season, must however go to Harry Turner. With the Griffins 4-1 up midway though the 2nd half, and Harry
playing upfront, Oscar Saxby broke through and had a shot which the Brockham 'keeper managed only to push to Harry's feet. Harry successfully steered the loose ball
into the net for what should have been our fifth and his first Albury goal, only to look up and see that the goalkeeper had been impeded by a gentleman in an electric wheelchair who had inexplicably chosen that particular moment to 'drive' across the 6 yard box! Why he chose not to take a route behind the goal, or perhaps to delay his journey by 30 seconds we will probably never know.
Technically the goal should probably have been allowed to stand, but this would have been deeply
unfair on the home team, so we agreed to the referee's suggestion that we have a corner instead. Given the ref had given us the benefit of the doubt when Brockham had a decent penalty appeal turned down inside the first minute, I think luck evened itself out on the day. But I doubt I've ever seen a more urreal moment on a football pitch....
Prior to the wheelchair incident we had gradually imposed ourselves upon the game. The back four were organised and decisive throughout the first half - all
except for a moment of madness which allowed Brockham to equalise William Norton's opening goal. David Hill marshalled the troops at the back, and each of
Tom Sayers, Max Bewsey and Harry Turner put in a decent shift of work. The strong defensive performance continued after the break even after injuries
forced us to reorganise. Matthew and Charlie both did well to keep things tight in the 2nd half.
Against this solid defensive background, the midfield were able to dominate and create. William Norton and Jack Taylor were a constant problem for Brockham out
wide, and both were rewarded with a goal for their efforts. Jack's skillful runs with the ball and intelligent passing and crossing meant he was a popular choice
for man of the match. Will Melhuish and Patrick Field worked hard throughout, preventing Brockham from keeping possession and looking dangerous with the ball at their feet.
Tom Schoen and Oscar were a threat to the Brockham defenders - our own answer to Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch! Tom grabbed 2 goals, whilst Oscar created 3 and had a few decent shots himself.
Alex had the easiest goalkeeping day of his season so far. Even so, he was confident when called upon, and his distribution of the ball continues to improve.

U10s Tadworth League Div B

17.10.09

Holmbury Wolves C 1 - 6 Albury Griffins

With the first half being fairly even, the main difference in this game was some excellent passing and teamwork from The Griffins. This resulted in 2 goals, one scored by, and the other set up, by Joe Lockhart. Marco Rolandelli also hit the post twice and was denied by the home keeper who was in great form. Holmbury missed a good opportunity to pull a goal back and so at half-time it was 0-2 to Albury.

As the 2nd half progressed, James Foulsham and Marco Rolandelli began to dominate the midfield and that resulted in a very quiet time for the Albury defence, who were now looking for goals themselves. A rare attack resulted in a goal for Holmbury, but The Griffins poured forward to get 4 more goals.

In the end it was a comfortable win with some great saves from the Holmbury goalkeeper denying  the Griffins more goals.
