The season is already in full swing.
We have had four 11-a-side weekends in the Horsham League, whilst the mini soccer Tadworth League fixtures kicked off last Saturday.
Sadly, an early casualty has been our U12 side, who could not recruit a sufficient number of players, and have had to withdraw from the competition.
Otherwise, the goals have been flying in, mostly in the right direction.
A plea also, Albury Eagles would like to appoint a successor to our long standing treasurer Lynne Smith who is standing down in November.
Anybody with a passion for figures, and with an hour or two to spare each week, should contact Tony Hern in the first instance.
On to the latest match reports…………….

Cup weekend in the Horsham League…………….
U15s
26.09.09
East Grinstead Meads 2 - 2 Albury Eagles
(after extra time) Eagles won 4-2 on penalties.
An exciting cup tie in the Horsham League saw Eagles go two goals down during the first half, just as in a recent league fixture.
Eagles then rolled their sleeves up and pulled themselves back into the game - concerted pressure towards the end of the first half forcing an own goal, before a superbly flighted free kick from Dan Cannon after 50 minutes brought the equaliser. A tense finish ensued, but even after 20 minutes extra time, no further goals were scored. James Hern eventually slotted the vital spot kick for a 4-2 win on penalties.
U14s
26.09.09
Albury Eagles 11 - 0 Roffey Robins Athletic
Albury Eagles under 14s advanced through to the next round of the Horsham and District League's President’s Cup, with a convincing win against Horsham's Roffey Robins. Hat-tricks from Phil Smith, Christopher Brooks and Lewis Keen and one goal each from Nathanael Farrant and Laurie Owen completed a good start in this year’s cup competition for the Eagles.

Horsham Sparrows 0 – 7 Albury Eagles
Albury Eagles under 14s travelled to Horsham Park knowing that last season they had given away the match through not taking goal scoring opportunities when they came, but this seasons match was to be quiet the reverse. Philip Smith set the Eagles off the mark after just 5 minutes, pouncing onto a cross from Laurie Owen. He then added another with a break away run past the Sparrows defence to slide the ball past the Horsham keeper and taking the score to 2.0 at half time.
In the second half the Eagles completely dominated the game and another goal was added when Lewis Keen headed in from a corner. Harvey Marshall added another when unmarked in the centre of the pitch, coolly sent a shot from well over 35 yards from goal that sailed over the heads of the Horsham defence and keeper to dip just below the cross bar to give the Eagles a 4.0 lead.
Horsham failed to deal with Albury's pressure and Phil Smith's penetrating runs, which resulted in a penalty that Tom Cantoni blasted in from the spot, this sparked Tom Cantoni ( this weeks make - shift striker and man of the match ) into action adding two more goals late into the game to achieve a well earned hat trick. A great performance by the whole squad who showed a determination in the way they played today.
