Albury Eagles 0 - 3 Brockham Badgers ‘A’

Albury came into this game with only 11 players. Playing Maidenbower who were 3rd in the league was always going to be an uphill struggle. Albury played a lot better than in their previous match against Brockham. The grit and the commitment were there but Maidenbower proved to be a very good passing side. Maidenbower had plenty of chances and took 3 of them in the first half to lead 3 – 0. Albury did have chances. Luke Cannon racing clear only to shoot wide, then Chris Caley with a speculative shot which clipped the top of the bar was the best of the Albury chances. In the second half Albury managed to tighten up their defence reducing Maidenbower to only a couple of chances. Final score a 3 – 0 win to Maidenbower.

More bad news—unbelievably Brockham beat Copthorne 2 – 1 which means that they are 1 point behind Albury with a game in hand.

Upper Beeding 2 – 6 Albury Eagles

The boys travelled a long way to Upper Beeding who were at the top of the table. We started with a game plan to shut the opposition down quickly and not give them time to settle. This is exactly what we did and in fact dominated the game straight from the start. Albury played very well from the back to the front. Callum Ogburn in a new position didn’t give their striker an inch and with James Hern sweeping, the central 2 worked so well. Will Walker, Jack Gill and Ben Hurman contributed to a really solid defence. Archie Neve worked hard in the centre midfield position with Henry Schoen and Sam Charlesworth either side. Albury moved the ball forward quickly and Upper Beeding had no response to Dan Cannon, Harry Good and Steven Lake up front. This was our best performance all season and goals from Cannon (3) Good (2) and Charlesworth sealed a 6 – 2 victory. MOM Sam Charlesworth.

Albury Eagles 4 – 6 Royal United

Albury Eagles under 13s found themselves without any points from this game which was unfortunate as the first half  was probably one of their best this season. Albury dominated from the start and it only took Nathaneal Farrant 2 minutes to take Albury into the lead. With great link up play Albury passed their way through the Royal team and were unlucky not to add more goals to their total before a harsh decision for hand ball gave Royal the free kick that enable them to level the score just before half time.

The second half saw Albury retake the lead when Tom Beazley's shot from long range beat the stranded Royal keeper. The game then "see - sawed " between the two teams but Christopher Brooks’ two goals were not enough to win the game or gain a point which they more than deserved on the day.

No report.

U11s Horsham League Division D

14.03.09

Horsham Tigers 1 – 14 Albury Eagles

A comprehensive demolition of Horsham Tigers guaranteed Eagles the runners up spot and with it promotion from the Horsham & District  League division D with a game to spare.
Five goals for George Thompson and four for fellow forward Elliot Cozens were the basis for a victory which looked unlikely as Tigers took the initiative in the first minutes. A fierce shot from the edge of the area gave the home side the lead, spurring Eagles into action.
From then on it was all one-way traffic as Eagles pounded the home goal. Thompson completed his hat-trick before a quarter of the match was done, while Cozens (2), William Potts and a splendid solo effort
from Tom O’Neill ensured Eagles were out of sight by half-time.
The procession continued in the second half with Thompson and Cozens each bagging two and Potts adding to his tally. The rout was completed by two sparkling strikes by substitute Louis O’Hanlon.
