Cranleigh Cobras 5 – 1 Albury Eagles
A good but hard fought match today which may have had a totally different outcome if things would have gone our way. A depleted Albury side took on their local rivals Cranleigh. A shift around of the team was required after goalkeeper Ben Walter broke toes earlier in the week. Jake Nurse donned the gloves and did a good job in Ben’s absence. Albury hit the bar after the first minute when Luke Cannon let fly from just inside the box. Chris Caley then fired narrowly wide. Albury playing with no Dan Kelly and fullback James Rush absent really took the game to Cranleigh. With no available substitutes Albury went on all out attack. With defence and midfield playing well Cranleigh scored against the run of play after a shot deflected of Zac Smith past the Albury keeper. Cranleigh came into the game much more and took a 2-0 lead with a cracking shot from outside the box giving the keeper no chance. Then Albury were awarded a penalty after Chris Caley was tripped in the box as he outfoxed the Cranleigh centre back. Dan Kingshott stepped up and smashed the ball past the Cranleigh keeper. Cranleigh scored again just before half time to make it 3-1. Albury battled hard in the second half but failed to create much in the way of chances. Cranleigh scored twice more as Albury tired failing to be able to bring on any fresh subs and finally succumbed. But under the circumstances the boys fought and battled well and gave their all.

Lingfield 4 - 5 Albury Eagles
Albury Eagles under 13s produced a quality performance by the whole of the squad to grab all three points from a very strong Lingfield team. Harvey Marshall gave the Eagles the start they needed by beating two or three players on the edge of the box then firing a low shot past the keeper. Christopher Brooks added another but Lingfield scored just before the break to keep the game on a knife edge.
Albury then dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half with good defensive play from Tom Gill and George Duff which allowed Philip Smith to grab the team another goal and Christopher Brooks to add two more and gain his hat-trick and put the Eagles into what seemed to be an uncatchable lead. However Lingfield finished the stronger and as injuries and tiredness affected the Albury team the home side pulled the score line back to 5-4. But Albury were not to be robbed of their hard efforts and with Miles Hamer coming on to strengthen the defence, Albury saw the game out as deserved winners.

Double Header
31.01.09
Albury Eagles 2 - 1Royal United
Two games. One morning. Six points. A satisfactory outcome for Eagles in a fixture-congestion-beating double header against the league’s bottom club which lifts Albury to within one point of the leaders.
Eagles stuttered their way through the first match, never playing with any fluidity and creating few chances. After an uneventful first half when Elliott Cozens carved out Eagles’ best chance, the game came to life after a Royal United defender turned a cross into his own net. The lead was doubled ten minutes later when a Tom Hartley shot took a nasty deflection and squirmed through the goalkeeper’s arms.
Royal United increased the tempo and pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining but Eagles repelled the late pressure.
Royal United 1 – 5 Albury Eagles
A more fluid performance in the second match led to a comfortable victory. Eagles were ahead after 6 minutes when Tom Hartley finished well and a minute later Elliott Cozens doubled the lead. Although the visitors pulled a goal back Eagles soon restored their superiority with two goals before half time from George Thompson.
Eagles remained in control after the break but only Tom Hartley could add to Eagles’ tally.
