Newsletter Issue No 87 27/01/2009

27th January 2009

www.alburyeagles.com

It has been a difficult time for all our squads over the past seven weeks since the last newsletter, with firstly a very cold snap, then just wet weather trying everyone’s patience as we attempt to get games on, even training on.

Away games are often cancelled due to heavy pitches in Sussex, and frosty mornings will normally spell bad news for our home games.

Let us hope it gets drier soon, and we can get the second half of the season sorted out.

To their great credit, our mini-soccer sides did actually get most of their scheduled fixtures on.

Time is actually disappearing away quite fast now.

Half term is soon approaching, and Easter holidays take in the first three Saturdays in April, so managers beware, play your games when you are able to!

I have put in a revised playing schedule of remaining

11 a side games to the best of my knowledge, at the end of this news.

On to match reports, and this has what has been sent in to the editor’s desk..............

Matches Played Saturday 20th December

U12s Horsham League Division B

20.12.08

Albury Eagles 8 – 1 Roffey Robins Wanderers

Matches Played Saturday 17th January

U15s Horsham League Division A

17.01.09

Albury Eagles 0 – 7 Upper Beeding

Well what I can say about this weekend’s performance. Upper Beeding were very good and we were very bad! Everything went wrong and we were punished every time a mistake was made. So let’s forget about this performance and concentrate on picking up points in our next matches.

John Caley

U14s Horsham League Division C

17.01.09

Copthorne 7 – 4 Albury Eagles

Scorers: Callum Ogburn, James Hern (2), Jack Gill

U13s Horsham League Division A

17.01.09

Dorking Saints Lions 12 – 2 Albury Eagles

Albury Eagles under 13s start to 2009 got off to a poor start with their heaviest ever defeat at the hands of League leaders Dorking Saints. Goals from Nathanael Farrant and Christopher Brooks and a tireless performance from ( Man of the Match ) Tom Cantoni were not enough to compete with a dominant Dorking Saints.

Neil Marshall

U11s  Horsham League Division D

17.01.09

Albury Eagles 1 – 0 Maidenbower United

A George Thompson goal after just four minutes was enough to put an end to league leaders Maidenbower’s unbeaten season and move Albury to within a point of the top of the table.

Despite seeing much of the ball in the opening exchanges Maidenbower were unable to create any clear-cut chances and paid the price when, against the run of play, Elliott Cozens’ clinical through pass put in Thompson who finished confidently.

Maidenbower continued to dominate possession but Albury’s back four of Owen Bracey, Billy Tompkins, Jack Inwood and Dan Foulsham, who were outstanding throughout, repelled Maidenbower’s attacks. And it was Albury who created the better chances with both Cozens and Thompson going close after swift counter-attacks.

Maidenbower stepped up a gear after the break putting the Albury defence under pressure but clear-cut chances for the visitors were few and far between. As Maidenbower pushed forward, eager to preserve their winning run, Albury continued to break swiftly with Tom Hartley forcing a flying save from the visiting keeper and Cozens getting the ball in the net but being rule offside. In the closing minutes a William Potts free kick from just outside the area was inches away from making the game safe for the home side. A frantic final few minutes saw Maidenbower go close twice but Albury hung on for a notable win.
